The spot

Thirty kilometres from Dakhla, in the middle of the Western Sahara, there is a lagoon where the wind blows around 80% of the year. The water stays flat and shallow as far as you can see, which is exactly what a beginner needs to progress, and what an experienced rider needs to push.

It is also one of the quietest places you can take a group of founders: desert all around, camps built on the water, and not much to do in the evening except talk. For a week about clarity, that is the point. Nights get cold in winter, so pack something warm.

What to expect

  • Wind around 80% of the year, between 4 and 8 Beaufort
  • Flat, shallow water as far as you can see
  • Wave spots 20 minutes away by 4x4, for those who want more
  • Wooden eco-bungalows right on the lagoon
  • WiFi is slow but enough for email. Plan the week accordingly
